COPA HEALTH ANNOUNCES DR. DIANA MEDINA AS CHIEF OF CLINICAL EDUCATION

MESA, AZ, JANUARY 25, 2020:  Copa Health, Powered by Marc Community Resources and Partners in Recovery, a leading provider of mental health services, today announced that Dr. Diana Medina has been named Chief of Clinical Education. The position is a new one within the growing organization.

Her duties include developing programs for different levels of training in psychology within Copa Health. She will be working with practicum students, interns and post-doctoral students. Her ultimate goal is the creation of an APA internship program. The development of the Copa Clinical Training Program will lead to accreditation using the data and analytics of the practicum and post-doctoral students’ work and outcomes.

Students will work in Copa Health clinics across the state as well as in Supported Employment, a program within the Behavioral Health menu, which helps people with mental health issues expand their independence by obtaining and maintaining employment. Agreements have been established with Midwestern University and Northern Arizona University. Medina’s plans include expanding that reach to additional universities and students.

“I love the population we serve and the commitment to education and service provided here,” Medina said. She also noted that with Copa Health’s commitment to integrated healthcare, there is no limit to what can be accomplished. Copa Health has provided services and resources for those with intellectual, developmental and behavioral health issues for over 60 years.

Medina earned her degree in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training in outpatient psychology and clinical services at Southwest Behavioral and Health Services. Upon completion of her post-doctoral training, she was named Director of the Erickson Outpatient Clinic, working with transgender and non-binary (TGNB) clients and providing clinical supervision at the master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral level. She was also in private practice and is an active member of the American Psychology Association, East Valley Psychological Society, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

“We are very lucky to have Dr. Medina join Copa Health. Her wealth of knowledge and extensive experience will prove invaluable to our members and the students she will affect,” said Copa Health CEO Dr. Shar Najafi-Piper. “Her skills and leadership are a great asset to our ultimate goal of providing world-class services in everything we do.”
