Development Projects

Copa Health is the largest provider of integrated healthcare services for individuals with serious mental illness in Arizona. With a large geographical area and multiple sites focused on serving individuals who require housing during transitional phases of recovery, Copa is dedicated to bringing housing to the forefront of care. As a provider of housing for decades, attention has been focused on expanding to additional types of residential options to reduce gaps in care and support the whole health care of those served by Copa. The projects featured below are in various stages of development.

FIRST OF ITS KIND

Collaborating with the City of Tempe, Newtown, and many other partners, Copa Health has created a multi-use housing project designed to benefit individuals who have behavioral health and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities, and community members that qualify for low-income housing.

This five-story LIHTC-awarded project features 104 apartments including one, two, and three-bedroom units for rent. It includes exterior and interior common areas and is situated close to public transportation. 70% of the units are available to low-income individuals and families, and 30% are for people who have disabilities.

Apartments include kitchen appliances and washers and dryers. Outdoor facilities have a shaded ramada and BBQ area, along with a playground. The site provides parking spaces and secure storage for bicycles on the ground floor.

THE COPA HEALTH WAY

While the top four floors provide residential opportunities, a portion of the ground floor includes services provided by Copa Health. An on-site integrated health clinic offers primary and behavioral healthcare to Copa Health members, building tenants, and the surrounding community. Whole-person care teams include physicians, psychologists, counselors, and case managers. This comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of health are addressed in a coordinated manner.

Along with housing, employment plays a crucial role in promoting economic independence and social integration. Copa’s Employment Related programs offer services and operate a sandwich shop, Copa’s Heroes, staffed by individuals in its supported employment program. Participants often acquire new skills and improve existing ones, which enhances their employability and future career prospects in the community.
