Employment Related Services (ERS) is committed to helping people with disabilities expand their independence by obtaining and maintaining employment. Copa Health achieves this through a variety of training models including career planning, pre-employment training, computer training, document imaging training, center and community-based “real” work training, job development and placement. Competitive & supported employment, with Employment Specialist co-located in six valley clinics.

Their job development and placement services provide opportunities for meaningful careers for people with disabilities. With Employment Specialists conveniently located in six valley clinics, Copa Health is committed to fostering competitive and supported employment for long-term success.

Copa Health Employment Related Services:

    • Assists people with varying levels of disabilities
    • Are provided both across the community in integrated employment settings according to their hours and at our Copa Health facility based programs, M-F 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
    • Allows the individual served and his/her ISP Team or Recovery Vision Team to determine the frequency of services
    • Accepts referrals from Rehabilitation Services Administration (VR), Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), Regional Behavioral Health Authority (currently Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care), Mercy Care, Evercare, Bridgeway Health, Arizona Complete Health, United Health Care, Magellan and private pay. We can do single case agreements and welcome the opportunity to work with new funding sources.

Supported Employment / ERS Behavioral Health

Copa Health assists individuals in finding work by utilizing supported employment principles. Supported Employment helps people find and keep meaningful jobs in the community. It is an evidence-based practice that increases competitive employment amongst our members while also increasing income and job satisfaction. We also note improvement in self-esteem, mental illness self-management, and autonomy. It helps to reduce public assistance dependence as well as stigma within the community.

Community Enclaves

Copa Health’s Employment Related Services (ERS) offers members a wide array of job training and employment opportunities serving both individuals and the businesses Copa Health  supports. The primary goal is to provide needed supports that enable members to gain meaningful employment within the community.

A Copa Community Enclave typically includes the following:

    • A Copa Health supervised team of members that perform business/customer directed activities either at the business site or at one of Copa’s ERS locations (2 in Mesa and 1 in West Phoenix).
    • The types of work vary based on the business/customer requirements. Community Enclaves have provided food service, janitorial, and manufacturing/assembly types of services, however, the type of effort an enclave can perform is flexible and varied.
    • The benefits of the Community Enclave provide significant advantages to both Copa Health members and the businesses/customers an enclave supports. The enclave provides Copa Health members with an opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence and stamina, and the potential of employment. The business/customer realize a work team focused on the successful completion of a work project at a cost-effective rate.
    • Copa Health typically charges minimum wage for services provided with Copa Health supervision at no additional charge. Transportation to the work site is provided by Copa Health. Also, Copa Health has the capacity to perform work activities at one of its ERS sites in Mesa and Phoenix customized to the needs of the business/customer. Based on the hours/work performed Copa Health will invoice the business/customer on a monthly basis.
    • Copa Health currently has 27 community enclaves providing real work experience and training, providing:
      • Wire assembly services at the Boeing Apache Helicopter plant in Mesa
      • Management and operation of the Rendezvous Cafe and golf cart cleaning at Leisure World
      • Concession workers at the following locations:
        • Spring training games for the Cubs, Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Oakland A’s
        • Arizona State venue sports and concerts
      • Meal preparation and delivery to jails for the Mesa and Police Departments
      • Gum removal services for Mesa Public Schools
      • Janitorial services for WM Grace Properties
      • Snack Bar services at City of Mesa Main and Red Mountain Public Libraries
      • Laundry services at Social Spin Laundromat

Navigation Services at Paz De Cristo

In the last year three ERS Navigators have engaged with 1,831 people at Paz De Cristo, 95% have all been entered into Soxbox for tracking specific to Paz De Cristo. Approximately 35% have been entered in the system and are being referred back for employment services and/or outpatient services. Many need mental health services but are unwilling to enroll. We added a Behavioral Health professional to be on site for assessments this should move the dial on the 35% with an increase in eligibility and enrollment in our services. Our Navigators have attended court over 250 times working closely with Judge Tatz, Judge Lafoya and Judge Hinske.

Peer Support

We have an exceptional peer support program with eleven graduating classes a year. Average class is 15 –20 members pre-covid Classes are limited to 10 during the COVID pandemic . Our two class instructors were recently certified in ASIST Training (Suicide Intervention Training) and will be offering ASIST Training to our staff and to graduates of Peer Support.
